L'Oréal Paris Sculpting Collection // Base & Lips

If sculpting your face excites you, then I believe the new L'Oréal Paris Sculpting Collection will induce the same kind of excitement – it offers up the chance to progress further as your own facial architect. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the L'Oréal Infallible Sculpt Base Foundation (£8.99)* and, the product I was initially very excited and intrigued by, the L'Oréal Infallible Matte Max Designer Lip Pen (£6.99)*.

Apart from my latest Bourjois City Radiance discovery, drugstore foundations aren't something I usually gravitate towards, mainly because I am a wee bit of a packaging snob (come on, hands up!). The latest L'Oréal sculpting base isn't housed in an extraordinary bottle, but it sure offers an extraordinary formula that I have definitely got on board with. The foundation was designed to create an even complexion ready for the use of contouring products on top. I'm not sure how this is particularly differs to other bases - I think it has been created to ensure seamless blending of the addition sculpting products - but either way, I really like it. I have the light/medium shade, which is the lightest one out of the two, and I thought it would be a tad too dark (another pet peeve with drugstore foundations), but in fact, it is the perfect match and adapts well to my colouring when on the skin due to its colour adaptive formulation. Hopefully the brand will expand the colour range, however these two will suit the majority of skin tones, unless you're very dark. The formula is incredibly light and provides a radiant, demi-matte finish with medium coverage - ideal for day and night! The L'Oréal Infallible Sculpt Base Foundation will be available in March.

Now here’s where my balloon of excitement popped: the Infallible Matte Max Designer Lip Pens – the launch I was SO SO excited for when I first became aware of them. I anticipated them to be how they were described; intensely pigmented powders with sponge applicators that dispensed a bright wash of matte colour. Now, these pens are innovative, don’t be mistaken by that, and I absolutely love the concept, I just feel that they haven’t been as well executed as I first hoped. The lighter colours are the best ones, and are something that I will be reaching for on casual days when I don’t want a lot of colour pay off, but still a little… anti-climatic.  I was the most eager to try the purple as it looked like a really vivid shade, however it’s a nice blue-toned pink if that. The swatches below took a fair few coats too, and even then they’re not that bright. I do love the formula and they feel really nice on the lips (and I had no trouble ‘contouring’ my lip line with these), so there are some positives, but overall, generally a wishy washy product. There are six shades in total: Silencio, Like A Virgin, Oops I Pink It Again, Disturbia, Say My Name and I Gotta Feeling.

  1. I was looking at that foundation the other day as well, you've now persuaded me even more! It sounds like everything I look for in a foundation! xxx
